October – Pregnancy Loss and Acupuncture
October is nationally recognized as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. The loss of a baby in utero or at term is devastating and causes both physical and mental repercussions. Acupuncture can be used as a healing modality to help women through this difficult time.
Just as acupuncture can help a woman sustain a healthy pregnancy, keep her energy levels up, and common discomforts such as sore muscles and nausea at bay, acupuncture can also be a healing tool in the event of miscarriage or infant death. Acupuncture can help release a woman’s grief and calm the heart and spirit. It can calm the nervous system so she can slowly and thoughtful come to terms with the loss and being to process what has happened.
In the case of fetal demise or when carrying the baby to term is not possible or in the case of miscarriage acupuncture can help to release the fetal tissues and decrease the need for a D & C.
When a woman has miscarried acupuncture treatments can help to heal the uterus, heal the spirit, and help the woman cope with her loss.
Additionally combining acupuncture treatments with herbal supplements the body can be begin to rest, reset, and start the healing process and prepare for conception, if that is the desired goal, yet again.
